Anna Sawicka (Anka), Architect

Anna Sawicka (Anka), Architect is a Job Captain at a New York Architectural firm. She immigrated to the US at age of sixteen and encountered her first task of navigating a high school labyrinth of corridors and, of course, an unfamiliar education system. 

Although declaring major in Math in Computer science in Poland, where she is from, and showing great inclination for sciences, especially Chemistry, during High School, and winning multiple art contests, she has decided that she is looking for something greater, a field that unites all fields and is a feast for a Renaissance man or woman. She decided to marry her love for art, sciences & humanities and major in Architecture. Five years later, in 2012, she graduated from the PRATT Institute and has worked within the field since. She had an opportunity to work in various size firms, both Residential and Commercial, ranging from private to public and high-end to more budget conscious. 

Besides her academic work, she has committed herself to various non-for-profit and volunteer work. She is a member of Polish Scouting Organization, used to dance traditional dances at PAFDC, and volunteered during film festivals. She is founder of the Father Popiełuszko Square, a member of the board of Polish National Home in Greenpoint NY, and a leader for emergency relief fundraising efforts. During her time at PRATT Institute, she coordinated tutors who were a part Tutoring Program for Structural Courses, as well as tutored the students herself, she graduated with highest honors and received Henry Adams Award & Medal. She spent one of the semesters at PRATT participating in the study abroad program in Rome where she spent her time learning the culture, language and architecture.

 In her free time, she loves reading, learning new things (currently Japanese), hiking, swimming and travelling. All the above-mentioned help her develop her passion for architecture, science, art, archeology, environment, sustainability, outdoors and teaching next generations and help them achieve their potential best. Since childhood she always dreamed about being able to make the world a better place, and she is continuously striving to make this dream come true.

Arthur Chianello, PE

Arthur Chianello, PE is a licensed professional engineer in both Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters degree in Civil Engineering. His current position is the Water Resources Manager for a large City in California with a population of over 380,000 people.
His current responsibilities include managing the domestic water system in addition to river surface water supplies and groundwater banking for later recovery and use. Mr. Chianello has practical engineering work experience ranging from aerospace design, structural engineering, managing daily operations of wastewater treatment plants, and currently managing a domestic water utility. In addition, Mr. Chianello is a certified wastewater treatment plant operator and a certified water distribution operator. Arthur is passionate about the engineering sciences and is excited to help others pass their FE and PE exams.

Ben Hamlett, PE

Ben Hamlett, PE started working with electronics when he was in Junior High, working at a local small company, repairing multi-meters and making electronic trainers. Ben received both his Bachelor's and Master's in Electrical Engineering from the University of Idaho and is a Professional Engineer in Idaho.
Some of Ben’s certifications include: Certified SolidWorks Associate, National Institute of Metalworking Skills, CTE Advanced Occupational Specialist certification, FANUC certified instructor, Authorized OSHA 10 and 30 hour General Industry. For the ham operators out there his call sign is N7BEN. Ben is currently a Professor and Program Manager of the Automation Engineering Technology program at the College of Southern Idaho, teaching automation, controls, and electronics. Ben teaches students of all ages about robotics, PLCs, HMIs, CAD, instrumentation (level sensors, flow meters, light curtains, conductivity meters, etc.), different programming languages, industrial safety topics, etc. In addition to teaching classes, Ben does consulting at local manufacturing facilities programming and increasing efficiencies

Bernard Bahaya, Ph.D., PE

Bernard Bahaya, Ph.D., PE holds a doctorate from the University of Toledo (2019), a master's degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio (2014) and a bachelor's degree from Makerere University, Kampala in Uganda (2012). He works as an Engineering Specialist at STV Inc.

He passed his P.E. Civil-Water Resources and Environmental Engineering depth in October 2018 in the state of Texas. He is an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers. He enjoys teaching, learning, and listening to podcasts.

Bhaven Naik, PhD., PE

Bhaven Naik, PhD., is a registered professional engineer (Nebraska & Ohio), professional traffic operations engineer (PTOE), and registered road safety professional (RSP). Bhaven is a Civil Engineering faculty at Ohio University where his focus is in transportation/traffic engineering. He teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the fields of Civil, Transportation, and Construction Engineering and Management.

Bhaven has had working experience with federal and state funded research projects and has over the last 18+ years made significant contributions to the transportation systems engineering area through his research works. Beyond engineering, he enjoys spending time with his wife and son, working on DIY construction projects, watching soccer (footie!), and worshipping God.

Brian McSweeney, PE, SE

Brian McSweeney, PE, SE is a licensed professional engineer currently practicing at a multidisciplinary firm, TLC Engineering, in the Orlando, Florida area and is an active member of ASCE. The first eleven years of his career were spent in the Washington, DC area at structural-focused consulting engineering firms.

There, he spent his time designing structures ranging from single-family homes to churches, shopping centers, offices, and mid-rise post-tensioned concrete buildings, and also spent significant quantities of time working on historic renovation and adaptive reuse projects. Since moving to Florida, he has been actively engaged in the complexities of projects such as the design of entertainment and amusement structures and condominium buildings that reach 37 stories.

Brian attended school at the University of Virginia for his undergraduate degree and the Pennsylvania State University for his Masters of Science degree. As part of his MS, he focused his research in the area of fiber-reinforced polymer strengthening for concrete construction. In a series of internships during both degrees, he learned the value of skilled drafting and the basics of structural engineering.

He took the NCEES 16-hour SE exam in October of 2017 after being challenged by his supervisor to do so. The process of studying and taking the exam was a rewarding experience that greatly enhanced his knowledge of codes and material specifications, and provided additional confidence in day-to-day engineering. Having worked in areas where structures need to contend with high seismic and high wind forces, and having worked with all major structural materials in the course of his career to date (wood, masonry, concrete, and steel) as well as both conventional and deep foundations for buildings, Brian is passionate about training the next generation of engineers and, in this case, is excited for the opportunity to assist others in taking on the challenge of the SE Examination.

David Micnhimer, PE, SE

David Micnhimer, PE, SE is a licensed professional engineer in California, Virginia, and North Carolina. He has known that he wanted to be a structural engineer since elementary school. The past few years, he has worked at a steel bridge manufacturing company, designing over 150 different bridges, including trusses, modular bridges, and buried structures.

Previously, he worked as a consultant designing bridges, retaining walls, solar site foundations, substations, and a variety of other structures. He has conducted bridge inspections and site investigations as well. He is particularly interested in the complexities of seismic design, finite element analysis, and soil-structure interaction. You will see his projects in nearly every state in the United States.

He received his BS in Civil Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. He successfully defended his Master’s Thesis in “Stochastic Modeling by Polynomial Chaos Expansions on the Long-Term Behavior of Concrete Beams with CFRP Composites.” He is expected to complete his MS in Structural Engineering soon with only one class remaining. While at Mines, he ran DII Cross Country and Track, racing events from the 1500m to the 10k. He also participated in ASCE, AGC, Civil Engineering Honor Society, and the Navigators.

He recently moved back to Colorado with his wife, 2 dogs, and 1 cat. In his free time, David likes to run long distances and is currently training for ultra-marathons. He likes to spend time with his wife hiking, playing disc golf, and exploring.

Douglas Bowman, MSEE, PE

Douglas Bowman, MSEE, PE is the Lead Engineer in R&D and Special Studies group at Southwest Power Pool in Little Rock, Arkansas. His area of expertise is in power system modeling, reliability planning studies, and grid stability analysis, as well as development and delivery of engineering courses for graduate engineers.
He has a BSEE and MSEE from Mississippi State University and has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Arkansas – Little Rock in its Systems Engineering Department. Since 2014, he has been an instructor for the IEEE Power and Energy Society. Mr. Bowman is a Senior Member of the IEEE, past Chair of the Arkansas Chapter of the IEEEE Power and Energy Society, and a Professional Engineer in the state of Arkansas.

Elena Badilla, PE, MCE

Elena Badilla, PE, MCE earned a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from California State University–Northridge (CSUN) and a Master of Civil Engineering from Norwich University. She currently works as a survey engineer on a 10-mile segmental bridge project in Hawai’i.

She has over six years of experience in construction engineering, surveying, hydrology and hydraulics, geometry control and site development for residential, commercial and public works projects. Elena holds a professional engineer license in the State of California.

Emanuel Machado, AIA

Emanuel Machado, AIA is a Senior Project Architect with 20 plus years of experience in the Architecture & Planning Industry. His building type expertise ranges from Historic Renovations to Healthcare Facilities. 
Skilled in Construction Administration, Project Management, Architectural Design and Construction Documents, he has served various Institutional, Civic, and Private Clients in various roles, including Owner’s Representative, Legal Expert Witness and On-Site Project Representative. His work on the Restoration of Waterbury City Hall was the subject of an exhibit at Connecticut’s Mattatuck Museum titled “Restoring and Reclaiming: Waterbury’s City Hall”. This project also received recognition and awards from AIACT, The CT Trust for Historic Preservation, Engineering News Record – New York Region, the CT Building Congress and the New England Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art. In 2017, he was selected from a national pool of candidates to serve on the National Council of Architect Registration Board’s (NCARB) “Think Tank” Committee. Currently he serves as his state’s Licensing Advisor for Architectural Registration Exam candidates. A member of the American Institute of Architects and the United States Green Building Council, Emanuel holds a Bachelor of Science from Wentworth Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Architecture from Boston Architectural College.

Ernie Kim, PE PhD

Upon graduation with a BSEE from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, Dr. Kim accepted a position as a contract Electrical Engineer at the Naval Ocean Systems Center at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station in Hawaii.

After completing his MSEE studies, Dr. Kim took a position as an Electrical Engineer at the U.S. National Bureau of Standards in Boulder, Colorado responsible for precise measurement of optical fiber geometries and established the national optical fiber far-field and near-field measurement standard procedures and tests. He was awarded the certificate of achievement from the Department of Commerce for his work on establishing a fiber optic national standard.

Upon completion of his PhD studies, he joined Burroughs Corporation in San Diego as a Project Engineer developing fiber optic transmitters and receivers for an advanced local area network.

Dr. Kim left Burroughs Corporation to work at Ipitek Corporation in Carlsbad, California as the Manager of Electro-Optic Systems where he developed fiber optic Cable TV transmission systems.
Dr. Kim left Ipitek to teach at the University of San Diego and remains an active design engineer, including a sabbatical leave at Ascom Tech in Bern, Switzerland as a Senior Systems Engineer and Principal Radio Frequency Engineer at Lightwave Solutions, LLC developing advanced fiber optic Cable TV equipment for U.S and international markets.

Foad Alvandi, MSEE, PE

Foad Alvandi, MSEE, PE has taught engineering courses since the early 1990's, including a 10 year period of full time tenure track teaching at a private engineering school from 1997 to 2006. Most recently he has developed and taught a graduate level course in power systems engineering at the Johns Hopkins School of Engineering.
Additionally Foad has extensive work experience in design and integration of utility-level photo voltaic solar systems and holds nationally recognized NABCEP certification for the field of renewable energy. Foad has received his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Sharif School of Engineering in Tehran Iran in 1977, and received his Masters degree in electrical and computer engineering from George Mason University in Fairfax Virginia in 1987. He earned his PE certification in Electrical Power Engineering from the state of Maryland in 2006, and is currently recognized as PE in several other Eastern states, and in California. Foad has two grown children and lives in Northern Virginia.

George Attara, PE, MBA, PhD

Medhat (George) Attara, PE, MBA, PhD has an extensive integrated experience in academic Teaching (FE and PE review courses, Undergraduate and Graduate classes) at several Universities and a practical experience in Portfolio Management of Engineering Design, Construction support, oversight and management of high complex portfolio of Railroad and Highway Bridges, Stations, Facilities and Tunneling projects and programs totaling over $3 Billion.
Dr. Attara, earned a PhD (Innovative cost-effective Design/Construction of RR Bridges), from Rutgers University, NJ (2015), MBA(Project Management: Finance and Planning),from Dowling College, NY (2004), M.S. (Advanced Structural Engineering/Construction Management) from Rutgers, NJ (1999) and B.Sc. in Civil/Structural Engineering (1977) from Ain Shams University, Egypt. Dr. Attara, is an Active licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut , he earned PMP and is preparing the certification for PGMP and Six Sigma Belt. Dr. Attara, has a wealth of experience in teaching of FE and PE review courses (Breadth and Depth of all 5 Civil Engineering topics) Structural Engineering (Bridge Engineering), Geotechnical Engineering, Transportation Engineering (Highway/Bridge design), Water Resources (Hydraulic/Hydrology/Environmental Services), Construction Management.

Gregg Wagener, MS, PE

Gregg Wagener, MS, PE has taught several Electrical PE exam and FE exam review courses for PPI. Gregg has also worked for PPI on several writing and technical review projects for PE exam and FE exam products. Gregg has served as an electrical engineering and fundamentals advisor for PPI's online discussion forums. Gregg is a licensed electrical engineer in California.
He has worked as an electronics engineer for the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme, CA, performing in-service and development engineering for the Navy's air defense missiles and writing manuals for Navy personnel. He holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from the University of New Mexico and a master of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Southern California.

Guy Graening, PE

Guy Graening, PE has a Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Stanford University and started his engineering career at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio as an Air Force officer conducting research and development on advanced windshields for fighter aircraft. He then obtained a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Dayton with a focus on structural finite element analysis.

He began his environmental career as the Site Investigation Group Leader responsible for investigating contamination at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. After leaving the Air Force, Guy worked at an air toxics laboratory helping with sales, marketing, and development of new methods for siloxanes analysis for waste to energy projects. He is currently a civil/environmental consultant for GHD, Inc. and serves as the Engineering Team Lead for the Contamination, Assessment and Remediation Group. He has conducted remediation projects at Superfund sites, landfills, dry cleaners, mines, burn dumps, off-shore oil/gas platforms and on-shore refineries, a decommissioned nuclear research facility, and during the demolition of the east span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. He is a Professional Mechanical Engineer (CA) and a Professional Civil Engineer (CA, AZ, NV, OR, WA, HI). On his time off, Guy likes to go rock climbing, mountain biking, caving, kayaking, canyoneering, and exploring the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Heather Potts, AIA

Heather Potts, AIA is a licensed architect practicing in Atlanta, Georgia. She is also a studio instructor in the School of Architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she earned her Master of Architecture. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia’s Interior Design program in the Lamar Dodd School of Art, where she has since taught courses in drafting, rendering, and Building Information Modeling.
As a practitioner, Heather tries to implement an inquisitive and curious design process to balance the stringent demands of the profession. As an instructor, she is committed to fostering an environment for creative and exploratory thinking that is responsive to, but not restrained by, the boundaries and limitations of reality. As an architect, Heather strives to promote equality in the profession and advocates for advances in accessible education, and it is through her involvement in both academia and professional practice that she is able to find the necessary balance in her work.

Jake Dunn

Jake Dunn has always had a passion for engineering. From shake table science fair projects in elementary school to receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Utah, engineering has always been an integral part of Jake’s life.
Jake was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and is the youngest of five boys, two of which are also structural engineers. Jake is currently an Engineer-in-Training for Dunn Associates, a consulting structural engineering firm in Salt Lake City. Jake has been able to design hundreds of thousands of square feet in warehouse and office space and loves every second of it. Learning has always been a passion for Jake, which helps motivate him as he pursues a Ph. D in structural engineering at the University of Utah.
Outside of school and work, Jake enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He enjoys doing anything outside, be it fly fishing, hiking, basketball, boating or playing golf. Fresh off passing the Civil PE Exam in April 2019, Jake is excited to continue alongside you as we enter the field as professional engineers!

James A. Mirabile, PE

James A. Mirabile, PE obtained his BSEE from Drexel University and a master’s degree in Administrative Science from the Johns Hopkins University. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland. In his many years with Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, Mr. Mirabile has held various technical and leadership positions.

Mr. Mirabile is a senior member of IEEE, IEEE Industry Applications Society, IEEE Power and Energy Society, and IEEE Standards Association. He is also a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the Maryland Society of Professional Engineers. He is currently Northeast Vice Chair of NSPE’s Professional Engineers in Industry. He is a Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), Certified in Power Quality (CPQ), and a LEED AP O+M.

Mr. Mirabile was named IEEE Power and Energy Society – Baltimore Chapter’s 2011 Outstanding Engineer.” He is the current President of Maryland Society of Professional Engineers. His term expires in July 2021.

James Shimalla, PE

James Shimalla, PE, or Jimmy, is currently a general superintendent for Kiewit Infrastructure on the Verrazzano Bridge in New York City. In his 9 years with Kiewit, he has also managed construction on the Willis Avenue swing bridge replacement and the raising of the Bayonne Bridge in NYC.

His areas of focus include marine construction, structural concrete, post tensioning, and temporary structures. Day-to-day, he is ultimately responsible for all field operations including safety, quality, union relations, schedule, and equipment.

Jimmy received a BS in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University in 2011 then passed the FE and PE exams in Spring 2018. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and enjoys saltwater fishing in his free time.

Jerry Maffia, DE, MBA

Jerry Maffia, DE, MBA is a professor of chemical engineering at Manhattan College. After 20 years as a process engineer and manager in the petrochemicals industry, Jerry joined Widener University in the fall of 1992 as Chairman of the Department of Chemical Engineering. Prof. Maffia has broad research interests in environmental, energy and biotechnology areas.

 A specific research topic is the development of technologies based on the water retention properties of unraveled bovine hide collagen. At Widener, Prof. Maffia founded the Collagen Research Group, which has involved more than 300 students, industrial and government researchers and faculty colleagues. In 2010, Prof. Maffia retired from Widener as Emeritus Professor. In 2010, Prof. Maffia joined his Alma Mater, Manhattan College, as Professor of Chemical Engineering.

Prof. Maffia is an active consultant in chemical and bio-based processes, and is an associate of several consulting firms. He has offered short courses and training seminars on process engineering and related topics at sites around the world on six continents. A frequent volunteer for a variety of community and outreach activities, Prof. Maffia has also served on Meals on Wheels in Newtown Square, PA for the past 20 years. In 2008, Prof. Maffia established a student chapter of Engineers Without Borders at Widener University. He is now involved in service projects for potable water supply in Haiti, Kenya, and the Philippines through Manhattan College. Recently, Prof. Maffia has reestablished the collagen research group at Manhattan College and has initiated research projects with NASA, L'Oreal, ARK and the USDA.

Jeyoung Woo, PhD, PE, PMP

Jeyoung Woo, Ph.D, PE, PMP is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) and a registered Professional Engineer (Civil - Construction) in Texas. Jeyoung has worked in the industry for nine years as a project manager, a corporate quality manager, and a designer.
Also, he conducted several research projects about construction labor productivity, construction safety, engineering design quality management, and construction sustainability. He earned a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Civil Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) and a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Hanyang University, ERICA. He is a Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI).

He is ready to share his lessons learned about time management, problem-solving techniques, and other practical tips from his PE Exam prep. Joe Andrada, AIA, NCARB

Joe Andrada, AIA, NCARB is a Project Architect practicing in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up playing football, baseball, basketball, and soccer, Joe had his eyes set on being a professional athlete at a young age. Football brought him to the east coast where he was a member of the Columbia University football team, where he set his eyes on a new career path as a sports architect.
He majored in architecture and received a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia and continued his education in the Big Apple where he attended Parsons School of Design for his MArch degree. After graduation, he worked in the Higher Education studio of a firm in New York City where the occasional sports and rec project would come in. When his firm hired a new sports and rec practice leader, he moved to Washington D.C. to join his studio. He recently moved to Atlanta with his wife to help start an expanding sports and rec studio. Joe strives to balance an ever changing world with the ever changing requirements of the modern athlete and always seeks ways to innovate and advance the sports and rec architecture field.

Joe Taranto, PE

Joseph Taranto, PE has a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MBA. He started his career as a pilot in the United States Army. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Michigan. Following his Army career, he began working as an engineer in the commercial sign industry responsible for determining steel and foundation requirements.
For the past 25 years, he has worked as an engineer and Program Manager in the automotive and aerospace defense industries. Projects included Chrysler’s Plymouth Prowler Trailer and modernizing the Stryker Combat Vehicle’s hull design.

Jonathan Toone, SE, PE

A seasoned Structural Engineer with over 22 years’ experience in structural analysis, design, and project management, Jon’s comprehensive project portfolio encompasses a wide range of structures in all major construction material types in locations across the United States and abroad, with particular emphasis in seismic design.

Jon’s designs include low-, mid-, and high-rise steel, concrete, wood, and masonry structures for commercial, aerospace automotive, educational, religious, industrial, custom residential, hospitality usage and more, often with special seismic and/or environmentally sensitive considerations. In addition to project development from feasibility studies through construction administration, historic retrofits, and product testing and development, Jon has performed special forensic investigations and served as an expert witness in high-profile litigation cases, as well as a university guest lecturer, a professional development workshop presenter, and a professional consultant to the Southern Nevada Building Officials Structural Review Committee for the IBC 2006.

Jon earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Utah State University and his Master of Science in Civil Engineering: Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Materials from the University of California, Berkeley. He is currently licensed in sixteen states.

Joshua Ogle, PE, SE

Joshua Ogle, PE, SE is ‘The Hipster Engineer’. He is more than your average engineer and tries to find ways to give back to the profession. With his passion for engineering, Josh started TheHipsterEngineer.com to be a resource for engineers as they prepare for their licensure exams, job search and career growth.

Josh has a broad range of experience. He is currently a licensed structural engineer and Project Manager for a premier structural engineering firm, Dunn Associates, Inc., located in Salt Lake City, Utah which specializes in building design. He has worked on numerous building projects that do not fit typical design standards and loves every minute of it.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree from the University of California, Davis in Civil Engineering he went on to help open up a new office for his previous firm. While in Los Angeles, California he prepared for the PE exam. He passed the Civil PE Exam (Structural Depth) along with the California Specific Exams (Seismic and Surveying), and he wants you to pass too!

Justin Francisco, AIA, MBA

Justin Francisco, AIA, MBA, is a Tenant Coordinator Project Manager with one of Hawaii’s oldest companies as well as the largest grocery and drug-anchored retail operator. He manages all new tenant projects from design through construction by retaining and managing AEC professionals. 

He oversees 3.4 million square feet of the company’s commercial real estate portfolio for all properties on Kauai, Maui, and a majority of O’ahu. Justin believes that the most successful project managers utilize influence to accomplish their goals by establishing credibility, demonstrating competency, and genuinely caring about their projects and teams.

Before transitioning to Commercial Real Estate Development in 2018, Justin worked at two of the nation’s largest construction firms; PCL Construction and Swinerton Builders. During his time in construction, Justin worked as a project engineer. His duties included project planning and execution, scheduling, quality management, document control, and subcontractor management of various disciplines such as structural, mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection.

Justin began his career in architecture, spending five years with a local firm in Hawai’i that specializes in public works projects. These projects included universities, airports, and luxury retail. Justin earned a Bachelor of Environmental Design and an MBA from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. He is licensed in Hawai’i.

Kenneth Wasserman, PE

Kenneth Wasserman, PE is a Project Manager within the Rail / Transit practice within HNTB Corporation located in New York City. Before joining HNTB, Mr. Wasserman was working as a Deputy Project Manager for a 36 kM Light Rail Transit expansion project in Ottawa, Ontario for STV Inc.
Mr. Wasserman’s background is in structural design working on projects for clients including NJ Transit, South Jersey Transportation Authority, Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, as well as Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. He began his career working on the structural design of environmental structures for Hatch Mott MacDonald. He holds a professional engineering license in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania as well as a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Rutgers University. His specialties include the design and rehabilitation of structures for hurricane and flood loading. He is active within the American Society of Civil Engineers' Young Members Group as well as a member of the American Concrete Institute.

Khalid Hachil, PE, MSEE, LEED AP BD+C

Khalid Hachil is a licensed professional engineer in Electrical and Computer Engineering. He graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Farmingdale in 2016 and a Master’s degree with a Controls specialization from NYIT in 2019. He became certified as a LEED AP BD+C in 2017. His current position is as an Electrical Engineer in the second largest multinational, multidiscipline Architecture & Engineering design and consulting firm. Khalid was awarded the 2023 Long Island Business News 30 Under 30 Award.

Khalid has engineering experience ranging from commercial buildings, high-rise buildings, LEED projects, railroad, schools, university campus, distribution centers, emergency service buildings, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, water districts, wastewater districts, solar projects, EVSE projects, parks projects, and buildings over 1,000,000 square feet. He has also collaborated with the publisher Engineering.com to discuss how to prepare for the FE exam and the career benefits of licensure.

In his free time, he loves traveling, reading nonfiction or educational books, watch international movies, and stand-up comedy. He speaks 3 languages and would like to learn more. Khalid is passionate about engineering and he loves helping people achieve advancement in their respective fields. He is ready to use his experience from passing both the FE and PE on the new computer based test (CBT) format to help other engineers pass their exams.

Kunal Patel, PhD, PE

Dr. Kunal Patel, PhD, PE is an Environmental Engineer working for NJ State. He has 15 years of work experience in programs for water quality, stormwater, floodplain analysis, & teaching. Currently he is working as a project manager for engineering studies in co-ordination with FEMA and multiple engineering firms.
He has taught courses such as Environmental Engineering, Solid Waste Management, Fluid Mechanics, and Sustainable Engineering at several colleges as an Adjunct Professor. He received his doctoral degree from the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Rutgers University. He is a Professional Engineer licensed in New Jersey and a Certified Floodplain Manager. L. Adam Williamson, PE

L. Adam Williamson, PE is a registered professional engineer in the states of Connecticut and Georgia with inactive registrations in Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. He is a Senior Process Engineer with Studsvik Inc., where he specializes in thermal oxidation and volume reduction of both nuclear and non-nuclear wastes. 
Prior to joining Studsvik, he spent two years designing thermal oxidizer systems for John Zink and eight years designing fluidized bed boilers for Alstom Power (now GE). Adam holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute along with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and Physics from Clarkson University.

Lauren Sittler, PE

Lauren Sittler, PE is a registered professional engineer in the state of Virginia. She has held positions in product management for Aspen Technology, Inc. and as a process specialist for Carnegie Strategic Design Engineers, LLC. In her process design role, she worked on the construction of natural gas processing facilities. Lauren holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
In 2018 she graduated with her Master of Engineering in Supply Chain Management from MIT. While at MIT, she also completed coursework in the Sloan School of Management to earn the Sloan Sustainability Certificate. Lauren currently resides in Denver, CO and works as a researcher at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. At NREL her modeling work is primarily related to the adoption logistics of sustainable transportation and biofuels. She has also been a part-time teacher and tutor for Kaplan Test Prep since 2016. She loves helping her pre-college students increase their scores on the SAT and ACT exams and is excited to apply her passion for teaching to help others pass the FE exam! She enjoys spending her free time in the mountains hiking and skiing!

Marie Myers, PE

Marie Myers, PE earned a bachelors and masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, along with her MBA from the University of Cincinnati. She currently works as an engineer in the aerospace industry and has for most of her career. Marie is passionate about finding solutions to tough real world problems, with a strong focus on long term results and impact.
She has over six years of experience in testing, producibility and mechanical design in industry. In her time off, Marie can be found deep into DIY projects, running, spending time with her husband and participating in church activities. Marie is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Ohio.

Mathew Sadoff, PE, NEBB TAB CP, CPMP

Mathew Sadoff, PE, NEBB TAB CP, CPMP is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of New York. He is a Certified Professional in Testing, Adjusting, & Balancing (TAB CP) with the NEBB organization. Also, he is a certified commissioning agent with ASHRAE as a Commissioning Process Management Professional (CPMP) and Associate Commissioning Professional (ACP) with the BCA.
Mr. Sadoff holds a B.E. in Marine-Mechanical Engineering and a 3rd Assistant Engineer’s License in Steam, Motor, and Gas Turbine Vessels from Suny Maritime College. He has experience in project management, commissioning, testing, adjusting, & balancing (TAB), sound testing, vibration testing, building envelope testing, HVAC testing, electrical testing, plumbing testing, fire protection testing, security testing, planning & design, codes and standards, special inspections, operations & maintenance, factory testing, system optimization, energy management and measurement & verification in the construction industry. Mr. Sadoff currently works as a Project Manager with Colliers International providing commissioning services to his clients in healthcare facilities, universities, schools, government, corporate facilities, and high end residential facilities. Mesa Sherriff, M.Arch

Mesa Sherriff, M.Arch caught the architecture bug when he was young. Various roles in the construction trades led to an architecture internship, which led to school. Faced with the opportunity for greater specialization, Mesa chose to broaden his focus and completed an undergraduate degree in urban + regional planning with a focus on urban design.
Graduate school was a chance to re-focus on architecture with a renewed purpose grounded in city planning and design. After graduation Mesa worked his way up at an architecture firm for 4 years before transitioning to the role of senior urban design planner for the City of Tacoma, WA. Mesa's career has taken him to Los Angeles, to Vancouver, BC, to Seattle, WA, and most recently to Tacoma. He is continually inspired by all scales of design and energized to create meaningful solutions to design challenges.

Nebojsa Sebastijanovic, PE, PhD

Nebojsa Sebastijanovic, PE, PhD is a registered professional mechanical engineer in the state of California. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from McNeese State University and a Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees in mechanical engineering at University of California, Santa Barbara.
He has experience in the analysis, design, and optimization of various aerospace, industrial, and commercial systems and components. Dr. Sebastijanovic is currently working as an assistant professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Milwaukee School of Engineering. He is a member of ASME, AIAA, NSPE, and ASEE.

Paul Anderson, MS, PE

Paul Anderson, MS, PE has tutored and lectured for college level courses in Physics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Dynamics, and Heat Transfer. In graduate school, he was also a Teaching Assistant for upper division mechanical engineering courses in Fluid Dynamics and Heat Transfer.
Paul has over 20 years of experience as a mechanical engineer in the fields of nuclear power generation, semiconductor processing, inkjet printing, flow instrumentation, and environmental / NOx reduction. He holds a bachelor of science degree in nuclear engineering from Oregon State University and a master of science degree in mechanical engineering also from Oregon State University. Paul passed the Mechanical PE Thermal and Fluids Systems exam and is very familiar with the new exam specifications.

Quint Robinson, PE

Quint Robinson, PE obtained his Civil Engineering Bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and Applied Mathematics Bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southwestern State University. After graduating, he began work with a precast concrete manufacturer as a Project Engineer. 

Two years later, he transferred to the metal buildings industry as a Design Engineer at American Buildings Company, a part of the Nucor Buildings group, and has served in that role for over seven years. Quint hopes to lead the development of his team and those of the entire Nucor Buildings Group in the coming years. Until then, he works as a mentor to young engineers and takes every opportunity to help them grow. Quint has been a practicing PE since February of 2015 and is registered in Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, and Florida.

Quint has many hobbies, but his main passion is playing games with friends. He enjoys much of his time outside of work with his wife and two children. A teacher at heart who married an actual teacher, Quint is excited to pass along his knowledge to help others succeed.

Radhi Majmudar PE, MBA

Radhi Majmudar has 30 years of experience in structural design, analysis and project management of buildings, bridges, industrial and environmental structures, building envelope/façade engineering, and specialty glass structures. Her widespread involvement in creative, and often “first of its kind” structures, enabled architects to realize a vision that many initially would not think possible. She has held Executive and Partner positions at various firms before founding her own firm, Innovative Structural and Specialty Engineering in New York City in 2008.

Aside from practicing as a structural engineer for the last 30 years, she has also been teaching at the University level since 2002. She has held Adjunct teaching positions at various Architecture and Engineering schools including Columbia University and Pratt Institute.

She is currently the Chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers Metropolitan Section Sustainability Committee and an active Member of the American Society of Civil Engineering National Sustainability Committee. Radhi Majmudar received her academic degrees from Columbia University in the City of New York and London Business School. She is licensed in many states across the United States, including New York and California.

Raymond M. Burynski, Jr., PE

Raymond M. Burynski, Jr., PE holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and an M.S. in Applied Mechanics from Lehigh University. As a graduate student, he performed research related to corrosion fatigue of aerospace aluminum alloys. The results of this work were presented in an ASME publication on structural integrity of aging aircraft.
After graduation he was employed by a leading supplier of heavy industrial machinery, working within the organization’s various R&D and New Product Development groups. These positions took him to several locations across the globe as he designed and analyzed diverse equipment and processes. Since 2003 he has been an independent consultant and started Tripod Innovation. His practice areas include Machine Design, Finite Element Analysis, and New Product Development. He holds three patents and continues to work both as a practicing engineer and provider of engineering education.  Ray currently resides in upstate NY with his wife and three children. In addition to spending time with his family, Ray volunteers for a variety of youth programs and enjoys running, cooking, and the occasional pick-up soccer game.

Richard Austin, PE, SE

Richard Austin, PE, SE is a registered Professional Engineer in Arizona, California, Texas, Louisiana, and Hawaii as well as a registered Structural Engineer in California. He graduated from California Polytechnic University Pomona with a bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering.
He has over thirteen years of experience in the design and detailing of structural projects related to the treatment and storage of water, wastewater, and oil. He has experience in reinforced concrete, masonry, structural steel, and wood frame design and construction for a variety of building and infrastructure projects. He currently works as a structural engineer for Superior Tank Company, Inc., a manufacturer of steel tanks for the storage of water, oil, and other products. Richard is involved with standards development as a member of the American Water Works Association (AWWA D103-09) Standard for Factory-Coated Bolted Carbon Steel Tank for Water Storage Revision Task Force.

Rima Taher, PhD, PE

Rima Taher, PhD, PE is a Senior University Lecturer at the Hillier College of Architecture & Design, at NJIT, and is a part-time instructor in the graduate program at the NJIT-Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering. She is a licensed professional engineer in New Jersey and practices as a civil/structural engineer with her own consulting firm “Taher Engineering LLC”.

Dr. Taher has a bachelor of civil engineering from INSA de Lyon, Lyon, France. She has a master’s degree and a doctorate in civil engineering/building technology from École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, in Paris, France.

Dr. Taher participated in some building technology research in the field of building design for high winds and hurricanes, and she has several published articles in this field in addition to a book published by McGraw Hill Education entitled “Building Design for Wind Forces”. She has authored and co-authored several published books in structural technology for architects including some review books for the ARE exam. Dr. Taher is currently serving as the President of the ASCE/SEI (Structural Engineering Institute) Chapter of North Jersey.

Robin Closs, PE, SE

Robin Closs, PE, SE has 15 years of experience as a structural engineer in designing and analyzing anything from pipes to multistory buildings in fields such as commercial, power, government, institutional, nuclear, industrial, and residential. She traveled to Long Island in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy as part of a Code Enforcement Disaster Assistance Response Team.
Her engineering knowledge in timber, concrete, steel, masonry, aluminum, and light gauge metal has helped her design new buildings, complete renovations and additions, demolish existing structures, produce mechanical platforms, and design appropriate repairs to roofs, walls, floors, and spillways. Ms. Closs is the president of The Engineering Society of Buffalo and currently creates, writes, and edits their monthly newsletter. She also regularly spends time tutoring and greatly enjoys assisting young minds to see the benefits of engineering. She has also acted as the principal coordinator for 80 person volunteer teams, judged inventions, and mentored winners of engineering city competitions. Ms. Closs graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering with a BS degree in Architectural Engineering with a Structural Specialty. She is a licensed professional engineer in multiple states, is a licensed structural engineer in Illinois, and is certified as a NCEES Model Law Structural Engineer.

Samuel Severns, RA

Samuel Severns, RA grew up wanting to be an inventor but failed to find that degree at the University of Colorado. The next field that caught his eye was architecture and industrial design. His Bachelor of Environmental Design marries architecture, industrial design, and graphic design to make Sam a talented addition to any firm.
Sam’s professional experience spans more than 10 years and millions of square feet across the continental United States. Sam works full time for an international design firm as well as runs his own design firm specializing in aviation, commercial, industrial, restaurant, and residential projects. Sam holds an architectural license in Colorado and Texas and was initially licensed in 2017. He started his career working as a draftsman on airport tenant improvements, adaptive reuse, and industrial projects. He then moved to a small firm working on industrial and retail projects moving from a design professional to a project manager. From there he joined an architecture and engineering firm to focus on aviation projects. During this time, he received his architectural license and he started his own firm for projects that were outside the wheelhouse of the A/E firm. His talents were then solicited at an international design firm specializing in aviation and public works projects, and he accepted. In his spare time, he is a board member of a non-profit advocating for adoptee rights and identity as well as design-building his own cabin. He is lovingly supported by his wife, family, and two dogs. He strives for constant improvement and his curiosity is nearly insatiable. He hopes to inspire others and share his knowledge.

Tina Sanghrajka, B. Arch, M.S. (Applied Geography) LEED AP (BD+C)

Tina Sanghrajka, B. Arch, M.S. (Applied Geography) LEED AP (BD+C) has a passion for architecture and has worked on a variety of projects including Aviation, Commercial, Retail, and Residential for about 8 years both abroad and in the United States. Her interest extends from large scale aviation project planning to retail interior space planning. 

After completing her masters in Applied Geography with a concentration in Business Geography and Location Science at the University of North Texas, she is working as a location analyst and real estate agent researching and working on feasibility studies for private developers. In addition, she is developing GIS apps that facilitate business geographic research.

Tina’s professional career and growing awareness of the impact of the environment on daily life inspired her to seek LEED certification and subsequently, she has utilized her skills in convincing clients to obtain LEED certification. Tina is also a certified International Code Council Building Plans Examiner, and Registered Accessibility Specialist in the state of Texas. She has worked as Building Plans Examiner in Texas for about 2 years and reviewed numerous commercial new building and finish out projects as well as residential projects for Building and Energy code compliance. Tina has been an instructor for AutoCAD, 3D Studio MAX and Adobe Photoshop and lecturer for Building Design and Materials. Tina plays an active role in training Boy Scouts and is a certified Merit Badge Counselor for Sustainability and Archery.

Tyrell W. Arment, PE

Tyrell W. Arment, PE graduated with honors with his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and went on to earn his M.S. in Nuclear Science and Engineering from MIT. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Washington.

During his eight years of active duty in the Navy, Mr. Arment held several positions of leadership in both operations and maintenance of multiple submarine nuclear reactor plants. Mr. Arment also taught several classroom-based courses on quality maintenance practices for high energy systems, as well as topics on radiological controls, primary, and secondary chemistry controls.

Mr. Arment presented his research on Diesel engine efficiency internationally at the 2010 SAE Small Engines Conference in Linz, Austria. He also published his work on critical heat flux enhancement in pressurized water reactors in Nuclear Engineering and Design in 2013.

Mr. Arment currently works as a Mechanical Engineer for Naval Nuclear Labs in the thermal-hydraulics methods development division.

Will Carlson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP

Will Carlson, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP is a licensed architect practicing in Dallas, Texas with three years of experience in the A/E industry. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2017. His education was formed around the legacy of Mies van der Rohe left at IIT’s College of Architecture; finding beauty in the details.
After an internship with the Chicago Transit Authority and practicing in his firm’s Aviation market, Will has found a keen interest in the infrastructural architecture that keeps this country moving. With a focus on sustainable design, Carlson strongly believes that architects have a large opportunity and responsibility to optimize the footprint our buildings have on our planet’s environment.

Yasaman Bagheri, AIA,NCARB, LEED AP BD+C is a Project Architect & Medical Planner with 7 plus years of experience in the Architecture & Planning Industry. Yasaman currently works in Washington DC. Rafael Gonzales-Lagos, MS, PE

Rafael Gonzales-Lagos, MS, PE is a seasoned US Army Disabled Veteran, Retired US. Federal Interdisciplinary Engineer, and a Licensed Professional Engineer in NYS with an aggregate professional experienced of over 20 years in the private and public sector.

Rafael has worked throughout the US Armed Forces and Department of Defense as well as state and local government as a project engineer, manager & construction manager with a proven track record in MEP mechanical engineering, systems engineering, facilities management, power generation, biomedical engineering, biotechnology (biosecurity &biodefense), electronics and electrical engineering as well as city and regional planning. Some of the main tasks included: Operational design and risk prevention, constructability design assessment for LEED standards and all engineering disciplines, emergency power generation, MEP, security and life safety systems, bio-safety labs (I – IV), in the commercial, residential, industrial and military sectors.

Bonnie de Lyons, PE

Bonnie de Lyons is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Oklahoma. She holds Bachelor of Science degrees in both Electrical Engineering (2017) and Math Education (2009). She currently works in the protection and controls section of a large electric utility, specializing in substation network applications.

When she's not working her day job, Bonnie enjoys working with her husband on their "fixer upper" lake house, trying to create/maintain a pollinator friendly habitat in their yard, caring for their Blue Orchard Bees, activities with their dogs (agility, nosework, etc.), traveling, camping, cool-weather hiking, kayaking, attempting to catch fish, attending the occasional rock concert, and generally having way more interests than she has time.


Bonnie's favorite thing about teaching is the "aha moment," when something that had been difficult and unclear suddenly makes sense for someone, and they can go on to be successful with that newfound understanding. Bonnie's favorite thing about standardized tests is the confidence boost when you pass them. She got hooked on standardized tests as a teen. When her homeschool family moved from TX to WA State, she had to take the Iowa Basic Skills test. She'd always felt sure she must be behind her peers, but was amazed and highly motivated when she received back percentile scores in the upper 90s. The rest is history: SAT, ACT, the NALA paralegal certification exam, many CLEP tests (including the dread Chemistry CLEP), four separate Oklahoma educator certifications (6-12 math, 6-12 English, K-12 special education, K-12 English as a foreign language), the FE, and most recently, the PE. Here at PPI, she looks forward to helping fellow engineers prepare and experience success on their exam days, too.

John Crepeau, PhD, PE

John Crepeau, Ph.D., P.E., is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Idaho. He received his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and his MS and PhD from the University of Utah. He has done research work for NASA and the US Department of Energy, among others.

He has lectured in venues across the world. From 1992-1993 he was an NSF-NATO Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany. It was a great experience to be in Berlin so soon after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He was also a Fulbright Scholar at the Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He has published work in the area of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and the history of science.

Kyrea Njuguna, PE

Kyrea Njuguna, P.E. is a licensed mechanical engineer in California, Texas and Washington, DC. He has over 20 years of international experience in Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Renewable Energy, Water Treatment and the Built Environment and is currently based both in the USA and France. He runs a small engineering services company, Blue Dot Engineering Inc., and for the past 2 years has been a consulting mechanical engineer at Technip Energies, Eras and Solvay on several industrial plant projects in India and France.

He was previously a senior mechanical engineer at BVRT, a wastewater treatment operator in Texas, developing operational and sustainability improvements. He was prior a project engineer at Suez for a wastewater treatment and sludge-to-energy (30 MW power generation) EPC project in Romania and at LAB (CNIM Group) for waste-to-energy (30 MW power generation, 20 MW equivalent heat generation) and biomass CHP (150 MW power generation, 415 MW equivalent heat generation) EPC projects in the United Kingdom and Denmark respectively.

He has also consulted USA-based start-ups in a wide variety of sectors throughout his career, most notably Seabound – on marine carbon capture technology scale-up, COI Energy - on commercial building energy software improvements, Emrgy - on modular hydropower technology scale-up, and Appropriate Infrastructure Development Group (AIDG) on biogas and pico-hydropower pilot projects in the developing world.

His early career positions were on mechanical equipment design and build at KBR, Worley Parsons and SNC-Lavalin for gas treatment, LNG, refining and Gas-To-Liquids EPC projects around the world, and project management of power conversion equipment manufacturing at GE Power in France.

He received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom (2001) and his master’s degree in Engineering for Sustainable Development at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom (2008).

Mohammad Abbasi, PhD, PE, SE, PMP

Mohammad Abbasi, PhD, PE, SE, PMP is an experienced Bridge Engineer with a Doctor of Philosophy- PhD in Civil Engineering focused on Structural Engineering from University of Nevada, Reno.

He has over ten years of combined industry and academic experience in Earthquake and Structural Engineering, in which he could gain a deep understanding of the bridge and building design standards like AASHTO LRFD, IBC, ASCE7, AISC and ACI. Mohammad has a comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in design and analysis of different types of complex bridges and earth retaining systems. He is also experienced in design and analysis of different types of steel, concrete, masonry, and timber structures.

During his MS and PhD, his research was focused specifically on analysis of complex highway bridges with different geometric configurations , through nonlinear finite element modeling.

One of his major research projects involved conducting quantitative and qualitative assessment of the seismic risk to California highway bridges.

He also developed time-dependent fragility functions for deteriorating reinforced concrete bridges with different levels of reinforcement corrosion in California. The results of his work have aided seismic retrofit prioritization, financial loss estimation, pre-earthquake planning and post-earthquake safety issues. He has published several peer-reviewed articles in the leading journals and conference proceedings. As a certified project management professional, he has strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively develop a healthy teamwork relationship. 

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, family and friends. He also enjoys hiking, biking, and watching movies.

Robert Norsworthy, PE

Robert Norsworthy, PE is a licensed Civil Structural Engineer who works as an Engineering and Project Manager at Integrated Metal Products in Lakeland, Florida. Also, he is the Principle Engineer at Absolute Design Management. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and has a wide background of experience in steel, aluminum, and stainless steel fabrication in the industrial, mechanical, and architectural industries.

His project work includes working through each stage of a design-build process. In the design process, he works with customers to establish the design concept, and manages and develops the engineering design with a team of drafters and engineers. He has also acted as a consulting onsite engineer for various high-profile structural installations while also providing construction engineering support.


Robert has spent most of his career in engineering training his team toward success in the engineering field. He is excited to come alongside PPI students as a resource and support in their journey toward licensure. Outside of engineering, he likes spending time with his family, fishing, hiking, and woodworking.

Seina Soufiani, PE

Seina Soufiani, PE is an expert engineering witness who provides public testimony and recommendations to Commissioners appointed by the Governor of Colorado at the state’s Public Utilities Commission (PUC). He has provided technical and policy recommendations on regulatory energy issues that impact millions of Coloradans, including issues related to beneficial electrification, demand-side management, electric and natural gas rate cases, certificates of public convenience and necessity, and transportation electrification.

During litigation, he works with a team of professional engineers, economists, and attorneys from the Colorado Attorney General’s Office to analyze utility proposals, develop recommendations for Commissioners and Administrative Law Judges, and undergo adversarial cross-examination during evidentiary hearings. Seina’s unique regulatory experience lies at the intersection of engineering, economics, law, politics, and public speaking, and it requires the ability to convey complicated technical concepts to policymakers who may not be engineers.

Prior to his time at the Colorado PUC, he was at the Colorado Department of Transportation and the US Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

In addition to being a licensed professional engineer, Seina holds a Master of Science in Global Energy Management from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder. He is also an avid guitarist.
