PE Electrical Exam Overview
The PE Electrical exam is designed to test for a minimum level of competency in electrical engineering. It is designed for engineers who have gained a minimum of four years of work experience in their chosen engineering discipline.
This exam is an 8-hour, closed-book computer-based (CBT) exam with 80 questions relevant to Electrical engineering practices. The PE Electrical exam can be taken in three different disciplines: Power; Electronics, Controls, and Communications; or Computer Engineering.
A minimum of 300 hours of preparation for the PE Electrical exam is recommended, although some candidates will need more or less time, depending on their individual backgrounds and experience. There is no limit to the number of times you can take the exam.
The PE Electrical Power exam is administered year-round at Pearson VUE test centers, while the Electronics, Controls, and Communications and Computer Engineering exams will be administered one day a year in October.
